Our Story

Back in 1990, Craig Levering purchased a small electrical distributor in Dallas, Texas called Crawford Electric. From that moment on, he began building a team to become the best electrical distributor in Dallas in the commercial market. By 2001 he had accomplished his goal. Crawford Electric was the number one commercial distributor in Dallas with $50 million in sales. Wanting to expand further, Craig began looking around Texas for other opportunities. In January of 2002, Crawford Electric Houston opened its doors.

The 15 member team in Houston began with the same goals as set forth by their sister store in Dallas. Over the next five years the staff in Houston over took the commercial and residential market. By 2007, they were the number one commercial and residential distributor in Houston. Their sales figures for that year topped $130 million.

While Houston was expanding, Crawford purchased Cain Electric in Fort Worth in Feb 2004 to provide a store front in that growing market. This location has experienced good growth in helping to push sales in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area to over $130 Million.

In order to further expand our reach in Texas, Crawford Electic San Antonio was opened in July of 2005. Once again a team was formed that mimic all the goals and drives of the other Crawford stores. They took to the San Antonio market with the drive once again to be the best. By the end of 2007, they had risen to number one also, posting sales over $50 million.

At the end of 2006, Crawford Electric was the number one commercial and residential distributor in every market we were in. The 2006 combined sales total was $330 million. We were the number one distributor in the Houston and Dallas markets for Square D along with being the largest distributor in the state for Pass and Seymour and Raco brand products.

The desire to grow more led to the alliance with Sonepar USA . Sonepar is one of the world’s largest electrical distributors. Their desire and commitment to growth in the USA aligned with ours.

Since joining the Sonepar family we opened locations in Austin and Bryan/College Station, Texas in the summer of 2007.

In 2008 a new location in New Orleans, Louisiana opened up and another location in New Braunfels is scheduled for opening in the summer. The Houston location has also hired a team to beginning breaking into the Industrial Market.
